This College has made a modest beginning as Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Auto Academy in the year 1980 at Auto nagar, subsequently it was upgraded as Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Government Polytechnic in the year 1984 and it functioned in Auto Nagar for a period of 10 years i.e. upto 1994. Later it was shifted to Hayathnagar in Canara Bank premises in 1994 and functioned upto 1998 and permanent buildings were constructed in the year 1999 and the college was shifted into it on 02.01.1999 which is close to Ramoji Film City. Initially only 03 (Three) branches of study were offered namely Diploma in Architectural Assistantship, Diploma in Automobile Engineering, Diploma in Computer and Commercial Practice with an intake of 40 each upto 2007-08. Later the intake was enhanced from 40 to 60 from the academic year 2008-09 and another course namely Diploma in Computer Engineering was also introduced in this Institution in addition to the other 03 courses.

Technical Education plays an important role in the development of the country in general, emancipation empowerment principal of poor and disadvantaged groups/ population in particular it provide various types of man power. It is the backbone of the country for its infrastructure, industry and economic development. The technical education system provides the practical education to student so as to groom their personalities to such a level that they create a mark not only in the growth and development of our own country but also make a remarkable and positive dent in development knowledge economies of the world.
During the last six years, the state government /the department has taken many initiatives to improve the quality of technical education so as to make a Diploma/ Degree holders employable from day one. We show technology and teach them to work with own hands. Such a work culture has to be developed. Labs and Workshops have to be research oriented. We need to perform things in labs instead of doing spoon feeding. No sample working but a complete work culture is the need of the day. A level needs to be attained where people from all and abroad should look at us as an image building factor.
This should and ought to be our goal as a Polytechnic to bring it to a status of an “Academy”. Today we cannot afford to be stand alone system.

11. OMBUDSMAN Officer Details
Aim of the thought
In order to ensure transparency by Technical institutions imparting technical education, in admissions and with Paramount Objective of preventing unfair practices and to provide a mechanismto innocent students for redressal of their grievances.
Each Technical institution shall establish a registry, headed by an employee of the institute of appropriate rank as the Ombudsman may decide, where an aggrieved student or person may make an applicant seeking redressal of grievance.
The Commissioner of Technical Education, Telangana, Hyderabad is commpetent to appoint the Institutional OMBUDSMAN and accordingly appropriate rank/Senior Most Principals were indentified and appointed as OMBUDSMAN to qualify the grievance system at Institution levelgrievance.

13. Online MOOCS Cources through SWAYAM
SWAYAM MOOCs platform is World’s Largest Online Free E-Learning Platform Portal designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., Access, Equity and Quality by covering School/Vocational, Under-Graduate, Post Graduate, Engineering and Other Professional Courses.
About the Cell
Swayam Cell deals with development of SWAYAM MOOCs platform with the objective of taking best teaching learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged by bridging the digital divide of students who have hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution and have not been able to join the mainstream of the knowledge economy.
Roles & Responsiblities of SWAYAM
Responsible for development and design of SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) Platform for hosting Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
Responsible to develop SWAYAM Platform to harness multi party involvement in education by blending expertise from multiple domains and making effective use of state of the art pedagogy/technology; audio-video & multimedia.
Responsible for procurement of the required resources for continuous operationalisation and smooth functioning of the SWAYAM Platform and many more.

The Institution is situated over a sprawling area of about 9.2 acres. The Institute has three teaching blocks joined together and right now the building is running at ground and first floor. The Institution has commendable infrastructure and aesthetically designed building with beautiful landscape. It is also situated at reasonable height from the ground level which fetches many advantages to the Institution from the safety measure aspects from unexpected calamities. The Institute has spacious and well ventilated class rooms, laboratories equipped with latest and modern machinery and equipment to impart up – to – date practical knowledge of the students.
Class Rooms & Drawing Hall
The Institute have construction is bifurcated into Instructional, Administrative and other circulation area. The Instructional area comprises all the Class rooms, Laboratories, Workshops, Seminar hall, Drawing hall, Language laboratory, Library, Tutorial room, Reading room, Auditorium etc.
The administrative area comprises of Office of all Officers and circulation area comprises of other amenities sections.
The Institution possess sufficient number of Laboratories as the per the governing body AICTE norms. All the Labs are well equipped with furniture and equipments to impart the qualitative and quantitative education to the Diploma students.
This Institution is equipped with a modern library meant to fulfill the information needs of students,faculty and staff of various Departments of the Institute. One reading hall with a seating capacity of 40 has been provided with the Periodical Section where all the journals, newspapers and magazines are displayed. Library has a rich collection of about 9350 volumes in the stream of Engineering & Technology. Library is also subscribing good number of journals, 150 magazines and 02 newspapers for its readers. The library provides Book Bank facility to the SC/ST and poor students of the Institute.
The workshops of the institute are fully equipped to ensure a steady flow of skilled technicians in different trades for the Industry. This Institution is having a prestigious collaboration with Hyundai Company as a joint venture to conduct the workshops in the Automobile stream
Community Development Through Polytechnic Scheme (CDTP)
SGM Govt. Polytechnic, Abdullapurmet is serving as a Training Centre under Community Development Through Polytechnic Scheme of Department of Higher education of MHRD, Govt of India .Under this scheme besides the running of non- formal training courses of four months duration for rural youth for gainful employment, Technology is also transferred through extension centres and Technical services are provided to the rural community. In the training programmes , the trainees are imparted training in the fields of IT, Domestic Wiring & Motor Winding , Farm Machinery Repair & Maintenance, Welding, Plumbing, Cutting & Tailoring, Garments making, Assistant Butician, Refrigeration and AC repair and Carpentry etc.
This Institute is having a facility of Hostel for only boys with a capacity of 50 students. This hostel is attached to the Institution and is student managed hostel. The hostel environment is so hygienic and a quality checked food is supplied to the students. Hostel is equipped with modern furniture and fixture with a capacity of 50 students. The hostel is provided with games and sports material for recreation of the students within the hostel premises. The residents are also provided such facilities as canteen, first-aid facilities etc. The warden is sensitive to the students’ concerns and is always ready for their help.

1. Room rent for one semester = Rs. 600/- per student
2. Hostel & Mess security refundable = Rs. 3500/-per student
In our institution there is canteen facility which is very neat and clean . Every type of food like snacks, soft drinks, tea, coffee, meal and various type of eatables. There is common canteen for boys and girls .
